Making Sago at Long Beruang, Sarawak, Malaysia
A film about making sago flour from hill sago palms, Eugeissona utilis, in the highlands of Sarawak, Malaysia. This was part of a research project funded by the British Academy looking at the lives and beliefs of a Penan community in the village of Long Beruang. Many thanks to the Penan and Malaysian government for help with our research.

    Sorry for my ignorance, but I was born and raised in America, therefore, I don't know anything about agriculture, but seeing how simply people like yourself go thru such harsh work, in order to turn huge, thick special trees into special ingrident, for desserts, snacks, food it's amazing., Althought I'm against machinery, in your field of work, I strongly advice that your government fund for you to upgrade and purchase a modest high tech machinery in order to avoid disease, germs, ecosystem development, climate change etc., Don't you agree., May God, have you in his glory.,

      If you pass the starch in a sieve you can have small, medium or big grains, even rounded, that you can dry and make "sphere" sago
